THE ISLAND AT A GLIMPSE
Puerto Galera is a soothing vision of shimmering seas surrounded by lush mountains. It is considered one of the most beautiful and developed beach resort community in the country. Starting from "backyard tourism" wherein local residents accept local and foreign tourist as stay-in guest, Puerto Galera tourism has flourished. In the course of time, several hotels, resorts, inns and restaurants have mushroomed within the area. Upon arrival, visitors board any of the waiting bancas (outrigger boat) that ferry passengers across the surrounding waters and into the various resorts dotting the coastline. Jeepneys to the inland hamlets of Sabang, Small and Big La Laguna, White Beach and Talipanan Point likewise traverse hilly, tree-lined routes that offer a sweeping view of the island’s less aquatic, but equally tropical side.
There are a thousand things one can do here. Landlubbers can pitch tents, light bonfires, play volleyball, toss a Frisbee, go beach-hopping, watch the sunset, gaze at the stars, hike, go rock climbing, carom off on a motorcycle, discover Oriental Mindoro’s other tourist spots or simply live it up. The PG chapter of the Hash House Harriers – a club that started 50 years ago in Kuala Lumpur and which was introduced to the Philippines in the early 90’s – regularly holds "runs": rowdy drinking sprees that have participants following two trails, one of which leads no where. When a runner follows the wrong track, he has to go back, downing bottles of beer in the process. What follows is a night of revelry no doubt spurred by the free flowing booze.
But water is certainly the main attraction of the island. Crystal clear and shimmering especially during the hot summer months, the sea framing PG is ideal for swimming, sailing, surfing, snorkeling and scuba diving. In fact one doesn’t have to go by boat to get to a dive site. Within a kilometer from the coast, schools of Moorish idols, trumpet fish, frog fish, lion fish and leaf fish weave in and out of thriving corals and sea anemones while species of starfish – from the speckled red-and-white to the neon-blue Pacific-rest on the sandy floor. diving philippines
Gradually sloping beaches – with the terrain ranging from powder white sand to grainy dark sand to smooth stones to rough coral rubble – comprise a large chunk of the island’s 25,247 hectares. And while the department of tourism’s last count pegs the number of resorts at 63, pockets of isolated and virtually "resort-less" coves and beaches are tucked between massive rock formations. Then, as now water was what shaped the island. As early as the 10th century, Chinese, Indonesians and Malay merchants were already doing business with locals in what is now known as Mindoro, the tiny strip of land which the Chinese called "Mai" and which lay directly in the Asia-Pacific trade route. In route to Manila in 1570, a Spanish expedition led by Martin de Goiti and Juan de Salcedo stumbled upon the resource-rich island and christened the entire province Mindoro after the harbor at Minolo. Mindoro was later divided into the provinces of Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro.
At the height of the raids mounted by Moro pirates in the 17th century. Mindoro was a defensive bastion, with fortresses in the nearby towns of Calapan and Mamburao. PG, the northernmost strip so named because it served as a port for Spanish galleys, became the capital. Here, the Spanish found safe anchorage and put up dock-repair facilities for the galleons that plied the Manila-Acapulco route. The island’s generally calm waters, however, belied a tumultuous streak, and once in a while giant waves would crush galleons and marauding vessels. Coins, jars, lamps, swords and other artifacts salvaged from shipwrecks and sunken vessels are displayed at the Poblacion Museum and at Capt’n Greggs in Sabang, lending credence to the island’s colorful history. diving philippines
Today, foreigners continue to be part of the island. They have been flocking since the late 70’s making it one of the country’s foremost tourist destinations. Many, for whom the lure of the tropics proved too strong, have stayed on triggering a real-estate boom in the process and growing expatriate community.
Outside of minor glitches, PG is a tropical paradise that is both rustic and thriving. By day it echoes with the soft breeze and the pounding waves. At night, it comes to life with heady laughter and the clink of wine and glasses, only to segue once again to the barest whisper of the elements.

Albay and the looming threats of Mt. Mayon

Albay Province is home to the majestic Mayon Volcano. Named after a beautiful maiden, "Magayon", which means beautiful, this scenic beauty is sighted to have the most perfect cone among volcanoes in the world. It has an exquisite appearance that disguises an startling behavior known only to residents of Albay. This volcano unpredictably behaves like a raging dragon, chasing the jumbling locals with flaming lava and layers of ashes out of their houses. Undecided whether to desert their hometown or to live with the dreadful presence of its shadow, they, however, choose to stay and consider the presence of Magayon a lingering phantom that is periodically haunting them with fearful visits.

ang simbahan na natabunan kung san thousands ang namatay ng pumutok ang mayon

http://mabuhay.es/files/Mayon-Volcano.jpg

major eruption was September 1984.
http://www6.worldisround.com/photos/2/474/25.jpg

Despite these discouraging facts about Mt. Mayon, it is still regarded an ideal destination for an ultimate climb. Many aspire to reach its summit but because of its intimidating nature, Philvocs advise those who only come for sightseeing to stay at the view point located at the mid part of the volcano. There are skilled mountaineers who have already reached its crater but only a few encourages others to go. It is no doubt a thrilling experience but the climb is tough and may require strong endurance, courage, and knowledge on volcanic topography. Interested climbers should first consider their skills before going. Consulting PHILVOLCS for its precise volcanic activity before heading and taking an experienced guide is a must, or climb with someone who had been there. The climb and descent takes about 2 days.
For passers by, the ruins of a community buried by Mayon’s raging eruption in 1814 whereas boulders of lava submerged the whole town and ran over the Cagsawa church filled with townspeople is undoubtedly informative and somewhat nostalgic. It is located along the national highway; just few kilometers out of the city.
Other points of interest start from the city to the hot spring town of Tiwi where Mayon is at her photographic best. Try visiting ancient churches of albay, caves around Camalig and beaches within the area. On the way back to Legaspi City, handicrafts and local delicacy stores are found near the market, where bus terminals are also located. Transportation is well organized and very safe. However, nothing else is here unless you get out and look for a more natural getaway. Moving down south brings you to the lovely quiet town of Sorsogon.
To get there, Philtranco bus company in Pasay City has regular routes to most districts of Bicol. The ride takes about 10 to 12 hours from Manila. PAL and Air Philippines have regular flights to Legazpi City.

Dumaguete City Negros OrientalPhilippines?

Dumaguete City is the main City of Negros Oriental. A small city that is flooded of tourists every year because of its local attractions and a place of learning of highest quality in the south. Dumaguete City 'a city of gentle people' is place that is worth a visit when you are in the run for adventure and fun. Its not just Dumaguete itself that makes it all wonderful, its the people, the attractions, the food... hmmm... you got to love the food.

Dumaguete City is located in Visayas, west of Cebu Island, south of Negros Occidental. Dumaguete City is not like those Cities in Manila, Cebu, Davao that is crowded of people and smoke, pollution and such. As i said its a small city. A small city that that is worldy known as a motorcycle capital of the World. with around 20,000 registered users of motorcyclists. It is not because Dumagueteneos cant afford cars, it is that Dumaguete have very narrow streets.

The Dumaguete Boulevard is one of the best tourist attraction in the island. it faces the Mindanao sea and glows with glory as seen on boats coming from the neighboring islands. It is a place for friends to hang out and eat sidewalk foods like 'tempura' and fish balls, and for lovers to... well fall in love all over again. Simply the Dumaguete boulevard is a beautiful attraction that must not be missed when someone visits the island.

Aside from being an attraction spot, Dumaguete is also known as the 'center of learning in the south'. You might ask Why? Well because Dumaguete centers the of the most prestigious university in Asia. Silliman University, the first American University in Asia centers in Dumaguete City. A University that is flooded with students, be it local and international for its quality education. Silliman University brought out the name of Dumaguete to the world. Dumaguete is indeed a University City and should be a choice when one is choosing for a place to study here in the Visayas.

Pantabangan is a municipality in the province of Nueva Ecija, Philippines. It is divided into 14 barangays: Cadaclan, Cambitala, Convesion, Ganduz, Liberty, Malbang, Marikit, Napon- Napon, Poblacion East, Poblacion West, Sampaloc, San Juan, Villarica and Fatima. Located in northern Nueva Ecija, Pantabangan is approximately 176km north of Metro Manila, 59km away from Cabanatuan City & approximately 20km northeast of the town of Rizal and 38km of San Jose City.

Pantabangan is the home for PANTABANGAN DAM, the country's first multi-purpose infrastructure & one of Southeast Asia's biggest earthen dams. It stands today as a phenomenon in Filipino engineering feats. Tourist's attractions in Pantabangan besides the scenic view of the dam are Dela Merced Lakeview Resort or formerly N.E. Summer Camp in Poblacion West; first class accommodation at the Best View Hotel and Restaurant or formerly Campsite Guesthouse in Brgy. Fatima; and a tour at the Hydroelectric Plant, also in Brgy. Fatima. November 30'th is the feast of Pantabangan's Patron Saint, Saint Andrew.

Meanwhile, Pandawan Festival made its debut in April 2008 showcasing many local talents as well as other entertainments. Tourists like to visit especially the water sport enthusiasts for jetskiing, boat riding and even bass fishing. What most people don't know is that the OLD TOWN or LUMANG BAYAN of Pantabangan was submerged in the 1970's & was relocated to the higher ground overlooking the vast reservoir. Hundreds of families lost their houses, farmlands, livelihood and risked their future to give way to the construction of the dam. Before the expansion of the dam through the Casecnan Project in the 1990's, it is a scene during summer season to see the belfry of the 18'th century church resurfaces from the dam's low water level. During drought in 1983, some areas of the old town emerged. The memories and legends of the OLD TOWN are depicted by Pantabangan's well known child folk painter, ELITO CIRCA on his ALAMAT NI MINGGAN or LEGEND OF MINGGAN. Tagalog is predominantly spoken in Pantabangan followed by Ilocano dialect. People of Pantabangan are also known for their very distinct strong Pantabangan accent. Well known Pantabangan words are ANTA (baket),ADYU & ARI (ooops), ABAT (eh baket), BULAAN (sinungaling), KULAT (MAGANDA), PUNDAKOL (BIG TOE), etc.
